The office serves as the central point of contact for students, families, and community members, and collaborates with campus partners to holistically support students.
If you have a student/friend/peer that you are worried about, refer them to our officefor follow up and support though the process detailed below.
Students can be referred to Student Support & Advocacy Services using this form, selectingStudent of Concern in the Report Type drop-down menu.
Note that this form is not designed as an emergency response notification process.
If this is an emergency and you need to report an imminent threat or life-endangering situation involving a student, please call the Cornell University Police Department at (607) 255-1111 or 911 prior to completing the reporting form.
Referrals are reviewed daily from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (Monday-Friday), and are not monitored after hours, on weekends, or during official University holidays.
A staff member will reach out to the reporter and the student for follow-up and support.
The following are examples of when to refer a student to our office:
Academic Concerns - patterns of absences (repeated/consecutive), a decline in work and grades, a shift in behavior or academic work; acting out in class, or written/verbal expression of morbid, dark, or violent thoughts.
Adjustment Concerns - trouble fitting, relationship challenges, or other college adjustment issues.
Basic Needs Concerns - lack of consistent access to clothing, food, housing, medical, and financial resources.
Medical Concerns - serious illness, deteriorating physical appearance, high-risk substance use, other medical conditions, or hospitalization.
Mental Health Concerns - excessive anxiety, feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, paranoia, excessive tearfulness or panic reactions, self-injury, disordered eating, other mental health conditions, or hospitalization.
Potential Threat to Self and Others - thoughts or threats of hurting oneself or others.
Unable to Locate or Contact Students - an inability to reach or locate a student after multiple attempts through email, phone calls, or texting).
Other - other types of concern not listed.
